Protection Collaborative is a platform where organizations from around the world come together to find the best ways to protect people living in poverty from violence. The secure data management platform on Protection Collaborative allows organizations to collaborate on casework and other dimensions of the Protection Model, providing services to survivors of violence and supporting governments in strengthening their justice systems to protect people in poverty from violence.
We want to be transparent about personal information collected on Protection Collaborative and how that information is used by Protection Collaborative. This includes the information you share with us directly (for example, through adding information to the system), as well as the information we receive about you from other people utilizing the system to protect people in poverty from violence.
Use of Your Personal Information
Survivors of Violence
If you are a survivor of violence who is or has received services from an organization utilizing Protection Collaborative, or if you have received services from the justice system – and an organization utilizing Protection Collaborative has access to your records through their work with the government or through the public domain – the information we receive about you may include:
- Contact Information – Your name, address, phone number, email address, primary household contact, country of origin, gender, disability status, and date of birth and/or age
- Case Details – Your picture, experience of violence, relief from the violence experienced, legal facts and event details, care plan, and social services needed and provided
- Assessment Results – The details and results of assessments conducted with you to determine needed social services, progress toward increased safety and stability, and your experience of interactions with the justice system and whether they were trauma-informed
- Survivor Leadership Details – Your picture, the name of the Chapter of the Global Survivor Network (GSN) that you are affiliated with, and training and leadership events in which you have participated
Your information is used by organizations in Protection Collaborative to provide you with services for relief from violence, legal support, social support, and survivor leadership. Your information may be shared securely within the platform from one organization utilizing Protection Collaborative to another, as they work together to provide you with support. For example, one organization may specialize in providing legal services and another organization may specialize in providing social services, and both organizations may work together to provide you with comprehensive support. Please note that access to your personal information is only available to Protection Collaborative and to the organization(s) directly providing you with support. Your personal information is not accessible by other organizations utilizing Protection Collaborative.
Your personal information is also utilized by Protection Collaborative to measure progress in protecting people in poverty from violence. Indicators of progress may be reported publicly by Protection Collaborative but will only be reported in an anonymized and/or aggregate form and will not include any personally identifiable information. For example, Protection Collaborative measures the total number of convictions of a specific type of crime (e.g., bonded labor slavery) in a jurisdiction within a timeframe.
The security of your information is of greatest importance to us, and we respect whether you want your personal information to be stored on Protection Collaborative. Organizations utilizing Protection Collaborative are responsible for entering only the personal information you have given them your informed consent to enter. We respect that your consent may change multiple times for many reasons. Protection Collaborative is committed to updating the data stored on the platform in a timely manner when we are notified of changes in your consent. We will remove or anonymize specified personally identifiable information. If you have any concerns or if your consent changes, please contact the organization supporting you and utilizing Protection Collaborative and/or contact us directly at [email protected].
Suspects and Perpetrators
If you are a suspect or a convicted perpetrator in a case documented in Protection Collaborative or in a case in the justice system – and an organization utilizing Protection Collaborative has access to your records through their work with the government, through the services they provide to their client(s), or through the public domain – the information we receive about you may include:
- Contact Information – Your name, address, phone number, email address, country of origin, gender, disability status, and date of birth and/or age
- Case Details – Your picture, details and status of the legal case, crimes you are charged with, types of restraint imposed by the justice system (e.g., pre-trial detention), judicial hearing details and rulings (including convictions and sentencing)
Your personal information is utilized by organizations in Protection Collaborative to provide support to the justice system and to survivors of violence in legal proceedings. Please note that access to your personal information is only available to Protection Collaborative and to organizations working on the legal case. Your personal information is not accessible by other organizations utilizing Protection Collaborative.
Your personal information is also utilized by Protection Collaborative to measure progress in protecting people in poverty from violence. For example, an organization utilizing Protection Collaborative may have legal authorization to access the information as part of their role providing legal services to a survivor named in a case in the justice system. Regardless, Protection Collaborative is committed to updating the data stored on the platform in a timely manner when you notify us about your consent. We will remove or anonymize specified personally identifiable information. If you have any concerns or would like to send us a notification, please contact the organization inputting your personal information into Protection Collaborative and/or contact us directly at [email protected].
Protection Collaborative Users
If you are a Protection Collaborative user, the information we receive about you may include:
- Contact Information – Your name, organization name, and business address, phone number, and email address
- Cases and Events – Details and results of cases within your portfolio and assessments you conduct, training or other events you lead/attend, your relationship to other organizations/users in Protection Collaborative, and conversations you have with other users in the platform
Your personal information is used by Protection Collaborative to set up your access rights within the system and to enable collaboration with other organizations/users of Protection Collaborative. Progress on cases you are affiliated with is visible to you and to administrators of your organization in the Reports and Dashboards section of the platform to assist you in tracking progress. Event history is logged to provide you and the organizations you collaborate with a record of the work you have done.
Your personal information is also utilized by Protection Collaborative to measure progress in protecting people in poverty from violence. Safeguarding Your Personal Information
The confidentiality and security of your personal information is a priority for Protection Collaborative. We acknowledge that disclosure of personally identifiable information can have a significant impact on people’s lives, and we want to ensure you are in control of your personal information. For example, a survivor of violence may face security threats if their location is disclosed or may experience marginalization within their community if their experience of violence is known. Similarly, a suspect or a convicted perpetrator may face challenges accessing employment, services, or other opportunities if their history of engagement with the justice system is known. For all these reasons and more, the confidentiality and security of your personal information is of greatest importance to us, and we respect whether you want your personal information to be stored on Protection Collaborative.
We also celebrate the ways that Protection Collaborative makes it possible for the organizations and individuals working on your case to communicate in a secure way by using the platform. We will keep your personal information confidential and secure and will only disclose your information as necessary for the purposes mentioned throughout this Privacy Notice and in compliance with applicable laws.
Your Rights
You have rights under applicable laws with respect to your personal information, such as right of access, rectification, restriction, erasure, opposition, and portability. You may change or withdraw your consent for your personal information to be in Protection Collaborative at any time by contacting the organization that input your personal information into Protection Collaborative or by contacting us directly. If you are not satisfied with our response or if you have concerns about how we use your information, please contact us at [email protected]. You also have a right to lodge a complaint with the Supervisory Authority for data protection in your country.
Information Sharing
Protection Collaborative may share your information with other entities to fulfil the purposes described above in the “Your Personal Information” section. Before information is shared, we put a contract in place between entities to safeguard protection of your data according to our Privacy Policy and applicable laws. Retention of Personal Information
We will keep personal information about you for up to [5] years after your case has been closed or your last interaction with Protection Collaborative, unless you ask us to delete or anonymize your information earlier or we are required by law to keep your information longer. After this period of time, we will either delete your personal information or anonymize it.
